People face different barriers to getting care and managing their health. We examine how costs, language, transportation, and access to information affect these opportunities. We aim to identify practical ways to improve support for communities with limited resources.

Health decisions often involve the whole family. Through collaboration with researchers in Taiwan, we are developing research on how patients and family members understand care needs, discuss their preferences, and make decisions together. This work aims to help nurses and other professionals better support families.

Managing diabetes and other long-term conditions requires daily decisions and ongoing support. We explore ways to help patients and families understand care information, communicate with healthcare professionals, and manage changes when moving between home, hospital, and other care settings.

Community health workers can help people understand information and find local services. We are exploring how AI chatbot could support this work, especially in low-income and underserved communities.

This developing research also considers what training workers need and whether chatbot support could reduce repetitive tasks, giving them more time to help patients and families.
